This morning, Aussie ex-pat Stu Rogers joined you on Triple J’s Mornings with Zan to walk us through some of the new sounds coming from one very prolific musical nation. Iceland only has a population of around 300,000, but produces a huge amount of big and small name bands making wonderful music. We hear from Sigur rós, Björk and Múm, but what about the others that are making waves in the northern hemisphere? If you missed Stu’s 101 on Icelandic Music this morning, stream it above on demand. Here’s what we sampled musically too…

FM Belfast - Synthia - unreleased demo from how to make friends
Seabear - Arms - The Ghost That Carried Us Away
Hjaltalin - Traffic Music - Sleepdrunk Seasons
Jakobinarina - This Is An Advertisement - The First Crusade
Ólöf Arnalds - Klara - Við og Við

Hjaltalín cover Sprengjuhöllin in bassist Gudmundur’s folks garage

Iceland Airwaves podcast exclusive live performance - Hjaltalín cover Sprengjuhöllin’s
Verum í sambandi sans lead singer and lyrics. As you see they nail it regardless. A
worthy follow up to Sprengjuhöllin covering compatriots Retro Stefson’s Medallion a
few days earlier. What a big Icelandic love in this is turning out to be. After witnessing
Hjaltalín’s fab show at the Reykjavik Art Museum we look forward to the release of their
debut album due out later this year.

Shot at the band’s rehearsal space in bassist Gudmundur Óskar’s folk’s garage by Stuart
Rogers. Edited by Stuart Rogers and Chris West.
